Het Groene Varen

In February 2012, the first issue of Het Groene Varen was published, a magazine about green, sustainable and maritime technology. Founder and editor-in-chief is Rijk Ponte van PoVelty.

Het Groene Varen
The first issue of Het Groene Varen was presented during Boot Holland 2012 in the WTC Expo Leeuwarden. The Green Sailing was partly arisen from a need for more in-depth information on topics related to green (maritime) technology and sustainability. Because this was not found in the existing media, Rijk Ponte decided to take care of it himself.

It became a magazine that would appear four times a year with a mix of articles that answered questions about green boating, sustainability in general and how you as an individual can contribute to a more green and sustainable world. A magazine full of inspiring stories from and about people who would like to contribute to this.

There was also room for pioneering work in the field of green and sustainable sailing and we devote attention to old crafts related to shipping. Readers who were in possession of an electric dinghy were discussed and they looked for answers to the question of whether history might bring solutions for the future; such as back to sailing merchant shipping.

Unfortunately, due to the increasing deterioration in the advertising market, not a single advertiser who wanted to try yet another new magazine, was the reason why it remained with one issue of Het Groene Varen.
If it works again, we will gladly pick up the magazine for a new start.
