The open source ELO;
These are created and maintained by various programmers and often offer a wide range of uses. Often also features that you, as a small user, do not or hardly need. Since several people at different locations often work on an open source VLE, you are regularly assigned to updates. It may then happen that an update is not an improvement, but a deterioration.
The purchased ELO software package;
These are generally quite pricey and often come with annual license fees. You install the software VLE on a server, after which teachers and students have access to it. This VLE keeps track online of which license you have and how many teachers and students are associated with that license. If you want to add more, you are required to purchase a more expensive license.
The online VLE with annual license for use and users;
Apart from the fact that you do not run this package on a server, it is otherwise equivalent to the software ELO.
